Spring has Sprung! We planted cabbages, lettuces and cilantro already, they are cool weather crops and can germinate early. We also planted some new grass where the chickens tore it up. We dumped and shoveled mulch, raked leaves, and turned rows.
The warm weather this weekend was a welcome respite after the huge storm earlier this week. The sun was warm, the wind was warm and the soil was cool and soft and wet under bare feet. It’s spring.
In Michigan, there are about six months of cold weather. Every year when it warms up for the first time it feels like it has been forever. It makes it all the more wonderful to enjoy the warm weather. It will get cold again, and even freeze again. But the lemon verbena is up and just to pinch a fresh green leaf and smell the fresh lemony smell is enough to confirm that spring is here.
