Pickled shallots, pickled beets, fresh chives, carrots, grilled chicken and radishes. It’s salad season. And the base of this amazing salad? These three gorgeous lettuces. Cimmaron and Freckles are romaine varieties and the leaf lettuce is called Grand Rapids. Together they are really impressive in a salad. Our weather has been hot and all of them are performing beautifully under the heat.
We got all three varieties (and still have some left over for fall planting) from MiGardener for a grand total of three dollars. That’s one inexpensive fancy salad! If you had any one thing to plant in the a garden – or in a small pot on a balcony, grow a salad bowl! It is so nice to finally be enjoying the fruits of our labor.
